Walk one of Nepal’s most diverse and dramatic long distance routes on this unforgettable journey around the Annapurna massif. This 16 day Annapurna Circuit with Tilicho Lake Trek takes you from lush river valleys to high Himalayan deserts, crossing Thorong La Pass at 5,416 meters and visiting the turquoise waters of Tilicho Lake at 4,920 meters, one of the highest lakes in the world.
Trek with experienced local guides on a carefully structured itinerary that includes proper acclimatization in Manang and a safe ascent profile toward Tilicho Lake and Thorong La. The package includes permits, domestic transfers, teahouse accommodation, and full logistical support, offering exceptional value for trekkers seeking both challenge and cultural depth.
With small groups, strong safety standards, and consistent positive feedback, Sole Encounters Adventures offers a reliable and authentic way to experience the legendary Annapurna Circuit with Tilicho Lake Trek.
This classic Himalayan adventure circles the mighty Annapurna range, passing through remote mountain villages, deep gorges, alpine meadows, and windswept high altitude plateaus. The Annapurna Circuit has long been considered one of the world’s greatest trekking routes, and the Tilicho Lake extension adds an extraordinary side trip into a remote glacial basin.
The journey begins with an overland drive from Kathmandu to Besisahar and Dharapani, where the trek officially starts. The trail follows the Marsyangdi River through waterfalls, terraced fields, and traditional Gurung and Tibetan influenced settlements. Gradually, the landscape transforms as you approach Manang, where acclimatization is essential before heading toward Tilicho Lake.
The route to Tilicho Lake branches off from Manang, climbing through rugged terrain to Tilicho Base Camp and then to the shimmering lake itself at 4,920 meters. After returning to the main circuit, the trail ascends steadily to Thorong Phedi and crosses Thorong La Pass at 5,416 meters, the highest point of the trek.
From the pass, the descent leads into the Mustang region, where the scenery shifts to dry, dramatic landscapes. The trek continues to Muktinath and Jomsom before returning to Pokhara and Kathmandu.
Kathmandu → Besisahar → Dharapani → Chame → Upper Pisang → Manang → Siri Kharka → Tilicho Base Camp → Tilicho Lake → Siri Kharka → Yak Kharka → Thorong Phedi → Thorong La Pass → Muktinath → Jomsom → Pokhara → Kathmandu
The Annapurna Circuit with Tilicho Lake Trek is considered moderate to challenging, primarily due to altitude and the Thorong La Pass crossing. Daily walking ranges from 5 to 8 hours on varied terrain that includes stone staircases, river crossings, alpine trails, and high mountain passes.
The Tilicho Lake section adds extra elevation gain and requires good stamina. With proper preparation, gradual ascent, and acclimatization days in Manang, the trek is achievable for fit beginners as well as experienced hikers.
Our experienced guides monitor your pace and well-being daily, adjusting when necessary to ensure safety and comfort throughout the journey.
The best seasons are spring, March to May, and autumn, September to November.
Spring offers warmer temperatures and blooming rhododendron forests in the lower sections. Autumn provides clear skies, stable weather, and the best mountain visibility, making it the most popular season for crossing Thorong La Pass.
Winter treks are possible but involve snow risk at the pass. The monsoon season is less ideal due to rain in the lower regions and potential landslides.

The journey follows river valleys, terraced hillsides, and rural villages, offering your first glimpse of Nepal’s diverse landscapes. Upon arrival, the crisp mountain air signals the true beginning of your Himalayan adventure.
Drive: Approx. 220 km | Duration: 8 to 9 hrs | Ascent: +460 m (+1,509 ft)
The trail winds through pine and fir forests, passing waterfalls and traditional villages influenced by Tibetan culture. Gradually, snow-capped peaks begin to dominate the skyline. Chame, the district headquarters of Manang, greets you with dramatic views of Annapurna II glowing above the valley.
Distance: 15 to 16 km (9 to 10 mi) | Duration: 6 to 7 hrs | Ascent: +750 m (+2,461 ft)
Today, the valley narrows dramatically as you walk beneath towering rock faces. Crossing suspension bridges and alpine forest, you ascend toward Upper Pisang. The landscape begins transitioning from lush green to drier alpine terrain, offering expansive views of Annapurna II and Pisang Peak.
Distance: 13 to 14 km (8 to 9 mi) | Duration: 6 to 7 hrs | Ascent: +690 m (+2,264 ft)
Following the higher route through Ghyaru and Ngawal, you gain altitude gradually while enjoying wide open Himalayan panoramas. Arriving in Manang feels like stepping into a mountain amphitheater surrounded by giants.
Distance: 16 to 18 km (10 to 11 mi) | Duration: 7 to 8 hrs | Ascent: +240 m (+787 ft) | Descent: −200 m (−656 ft)

Distance: 4 to 6 km (2.5 to 3.5 mi) | Duration: 2 to 4 hrs | Ascent: +400 m (+1,312 ft) | Descent: −400 m (−1,312 ft)
Leaving the main circuit temporarily, the trail climbs steadily toward the Tilicho Lake route. The landscape becomes more rugged and remote, with loose scree slopes and dramatic cliffs. You begin to feel the thinning air as you move deeper into high-altitude terrain.
Distance: 10 to 11 km (6 to 7 mi) | Duration: 5 to 6 hrs | Ascent: +520 m (+1,706 ft)
A challenging yet rewarding day across landslide-prone terrain with incredible views of Tilicho Peak. The trail contours along steep mountain slopes before reaching Tilicho Base Camp, set beneath towering ice-covered cliffs.
Distance: 9 to 10 km (5.5 to 6 mi) | Duration: 5 to 6 hrs | Ascent: +90 m (+295 ft)
Today is one of the most emotional highlights of the trek. An early start leads you steadily upward toward the breathtaking turquoise waters of Tilicho Lake, one of the highest lakes in the world. As the sun rises over snow-covered peaks and the still water reflects the surrounding mountains, the sense of accomplishment is powerful and humbling. Standing at 4,920 meters, you feel both small and incredibly alive.
After celebrating this milestone, descend carefully back to Siri Kharka.
Distance: 15 to 17 km (9 to 10 mi) | Duration: 7 to 8 hrs | Ascent: +770 m (+2,526 ft) | Descent: −860 m (−2,821 ft)

Tears, laughter, exhaustion, and pride often blend together as you realize you have crossed one of the highest trekking passes in the world.
The long descent to Muktinath brings relief and reflection as the landscape transforms into the arid beauty of Mustang.
Distance: 15 to 17 km (9 to 10 mi) | Duration: 8 to 9 hrs | Ascent: +891 m (+2,923 ft) | Descent: −1,656 m (−5,433 ft)
Descend through the windswept Kali Gandaki Valley toward Jomsom. The dramatic desert like terrain and views of Dhaulagiri create a powerful contrast to the green valleys where the journey began.
Distance: 15 to 18 km (9 to 11 mi) | Duration: 6 to 7 hrs | Descent: −1,060 m (−3,478 ft)
After breakfast, transfer to Jomsom Airport for a short and scenic flight to Pokhara. The flight offers spectacular views of the Kali Gandaki Valley and surrounding Himalayan peaks, bringing your mountain journey to a dramatic close.
Please note that flights from Jomsom are highly weather-dependent. Strong winds or poor visibility can sometimes cause delays or cancellations. If the flight does not operate due to weather conditions, we will arrange a scenic overland drive to Pokhara on the same day. While longer, the drive follows the world’s deepest gorge along the Kali Gandaki River and ensures you reach Pokhara safely.
Flight: 20 to 25 min
Drive (if required): Approx. 155 km | 7 to 8 hrs | Descent: −1,878 m (−6,158 ft)
Return to Kathmandu by tourist bus, enjoying views of rivers and rolling hills. In the evening, celebrate your successful circuit around Annapurna and the unforgettable crossing of Thorong La.

Today, you say farewell to Nepal, carrying the pride of standing at Tilicho Lake and crossing Thorong La Pass at 5,416 meters. The mountains may be behind you, but the strength, confidence, and memories you gained will stay with you long after this journey ends.

This trek is considered moderate to challenging. The difficulty comes mainly from high altitude, long walking days, and crossing Thorong La Pass at 5,416 meters. The Tilicho Lake section adds extra elevation and rugged terrain. With proper acclimatization and steady pacing, fit and well prepared trekkers can successfully complete it.
Thorong La Pass at 5,416 meters is the highest point of the trek. The climb is gradual but long, usually 7 to 9 hours of walking on pass day. We start early to avoid strong afternoon winds. With acclimatization in Manang and careful monitoring by your guide, the crossing is safe in normal weather conditions.
The Tilicho route involves narrow mountain paths and landslide prone areas. It requires good balance and stamina but no technical climbing skills. The reward is reaching one of the highest lakes in the world at 4,920 meters.
The highest point is Thorong La Pass at 5,416 meters. Tilicho Lake reaches 4,920 meters. Acclimatization days in Manang help your body adjust gradually before moving higher.
Altitude sickness can occur above 3,000 meters. Our itinerary includes proper acclimatization and gradual ascent. Your guide monitors oxygen levels daily using a pulse oximeter and adjusts pace when necessary.
In rare cases of heavy snowfall, the pass may become temporarily unsafe. Your guide will assess conditions and may adjust the schedule or arrange alternative plans for safety.
Flights from Jomsom are weather dependent. If cancelled due to wind or visibility issues, we arrange a same day scenic overland drive to Pokhara.
You need the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit, ACAP, and a TIMS Card. These are arranged by our team before departure.
One porter is shared between two trekkers. The weight limit is 13 kg per person. You will carry a small daypack with essentials such as water, camera, and personal items.
Hot showers and WiFi are available in most villages for an additional fee. Availability decreases at higher elevations such as Tilicho Base Camp and Thorong Phedi.
Yes, if you have good fitness and mental preparation. You should be comfortable walking 6 to 8 hours daily on mountain terrain.
Spring, March to May, and autumn, September to November, offer the best weather and visibility. Winter treks are possible but may involve snow at Thorong La.
Some lower sections have road access. Our itinerary uses scenic walking trails wherever possible to maintain an authentic trekking experience.
Yes. The itinerary can be shortened, extended, or upgraded with private transport options depending on your preference.
Most travelers can obtain a visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu.
Visa fees:
15 days USD 30
30 days USD 50
90 days USD 125
You will need:
A passport valid for at least 6 months
One passport-size photo
Visa fee in cash, USD recommended
ATMs are widely available in Kathmandu and Pokhara. Limited ATM access is available in Manang. We recommend withdrawing sufficient cash before starting the trek, as higher villages may not have reliable banking facilities.
Local SIM cards such as Ncell and NTC are available in Kathmandu. Mobile signal is available in many villages but may be weak at higher elevations. WiFi is available in teahouses for an extra charge.
Bottled water is available but becomes more expensive at higher altitudes. We recommend using water purification tablets or a filtration bottle to reduce plastic waste and cost.
Electricity is available in most villages. Charging devices usually requires a small fee. Carrying a power bank is highly recommended.
Travel insurance is mandatory and must include high altitude trekking coverage up to 5,500 meters and emergency helicopter evacuation.
Tipping is customary in Nepal. We recommend 15 to 20 percent of the total trek cost per traveler, shared between guide and porter.
Weather can change quickly in the Himalayas. Even in peak season, temperatures at Thorong La can drop below freezing, especially in the early morning.
